Founded by the National Science Council, Taiwan (NSC, renamed on 2014/3/3 to the Ministry of Science and Technology, MOST) in 1987, the Ocean Data Bank (ODB) has been operated by the Institute of Oceanography, National Taiwan University (IONTU). ODB is an interdisciplinary oceanographic information system based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for providing ocean data for the Western Pacific Ocean. The database has compiled various oceanographic data acquired in the seas surrounding Taiwan since 1986, in particular the data collected by the Ocean Researcher I、II、III, as well satellite and model data. The service provides users various utilities to search multidisciplinary datasets via web browsers. The database has been integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS), and the website on-line services can generate graphs and maps (with 15′ grid resolution and monthly timescale) for physical, geophysical, or biological oceanographic information.
