CTD

CTD casts were conducted using a Sea-Bird SBE 911plus which includes the SBE 9plus Underwater Unit and the SBE 11plus Deck Unit. The SBE 9 plus (Pressure sensor) contains modular Temperature (SBE 3plus) and Conductivity (SBE 4C) sensors. The SBE 9 plus CTD has 8 differential input A/D channels for auxiliary sensors to measure other parameters including dissolved oxygen, fluorescence, light transmission, etc.
CTD data were processed (acquisition, display, and archiving) by using SBE official software. Different versions of the software are used at different periods (see the following table). Currently, NOR1, NOR2, and NOR3 are all using Seasave V 7.26.7.121.

Transmissometers are optical instruments that measure the clarity of water by measuring the beam attenuation coefficient of light as it travels along a known path length. The transmission data in our database were measured by Alphatracka MKII transmissometer from Chelsea Technologies Group.

A fluorometer is a device for determining chlorophyll a, dye tracing, or turbidity. It measures parameters of fluorescence: its intensity and wavelength distribution of emission spectrum after excitation by a specific spectrum of light. The fluorescence data in our database were measured by using Aquatracka III fluorometer from Chelsea Technologies Group.

Oxygen sensors measure the proportion of oxygen in the water. Continuous dissolved oxygen profiles in the database were obtained with an SBE 43 Dissolved Oxygen sensor coupled to the SBE 9plus CTD.
