ODB Data Policy, Terms of Use, and Citation Guidelines
The Ocean Data Bank (ODB) is operated and maintained by the Institute of Oceanography, National Taiwan University, under the commission of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Taiwan. ODB collects, processes, and curates interdisciplinary marine data obtained from Taiwan’s research vessels. These data are available for application and use by government agencies, academic and research institutions, and industry stakeholders.
The release of ODB raw data is subject to NSTC regulations and is currently not available to foreign nationals. However, ODB offers a variety of open-access online information services and open data downloads. For more information, please refer to the application tools and the citation guidelines below.
Citation Guidelines
The citation formats for ODB data and services vary depending on the type of data or service accessed. Please follow the instructions below:
-
Data Requests
-
Ship-based Data
Includes CTD, ocean current, bathymetry, seafloor topography, sonar, seismic data, gravity, and surface partial pressure of CO₂ (pCO₂).
Citation format:Ocean Data Bank, National Science and Technology Council, Taiwan. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7512112. Accessed DAY/MONTH/YEAR.
Replace DAY/MONTH/YEAR with the actual date of access.
-
Biological Data
Biological data originate from various sources, such as NSTC-funded research projects, published journal articles or academic papers, voluntarily contributed datasets from researchers and international open-access databases.Citation instructions vary by source:
-
For NSTC-funded projects and voluntarily contributed datasets
Follow the same format as Ship-based Data. -
For other sources
As these sources are not owned by ODB. The original sources will be provided if your requested dataset includes such records. Please refer to the field “bibliographicCitation” for proper citation.
-
-
Chemical Data
Chemical data originate from two sources:- NSTC-funded research projects
- Voluntarily contributed datasets
Use the same format as Ship-based Data.
